Trees and shrubs represent some of the most significant long-term investments in any landscape. Unlike turf that can be replaced within a season, mature trees and established shrubs take years to decades to reach their full contribution to property aesthetics and environmental function. Smith LawnCare provides professional tree and shrub care services for properties throughout Raton, NM.
About Our Tree & Shrub Care Services in Raton, NM
Our tree and shrub care programmes combine proactive maintenance with diagnostic monitoring to keep woody plants in optimal condition. Routine maintenance includes structural pruning timed to the growth cycle of each species, which promotes strong architecture, reduces wind resistance, removes dead or damaged material, and manages size in relationship to the available space. Pruning timing varies by species because it affects flowering response in many ornamental shrubs and wound closure rates in trees.
Fertilisation for woody plants differs fundamentally from turf fertilisation. Trees and large shrubs benefit from deep-root fertilisation using specialised injectors that deliver liquid nutrients directly to the active root zone rather than relying on surface application to reach roots through turf competition. Our approach to woody plant nutrition is guided by visible plant health indicators and soil conditions rather than a default application schedule, since over-fertilising trees can stimulate excessive soft growth.
Pest and disease management for woody plants requires ongoing monitoring because many problems are treatable at early stages but become costly or impossible to address once they have advanced. Common issues we monitor for in Raton, NM include scale insects on ornamental shrubs, aphid populations on susceptible tree species, fungal disease on evergreens, borer activity in stressed trees, and soil-based root diseases that manifest as canopy decline before the actual cause becomes visible.
